Persian Rugs
Q: Where can I buy a Persian rug?
A: We live, breath and sell Persian rugs and we know the difference between a high quality authentic Persian rug and the imitations. Dont just take our word for it, visit our Oriental Rug Shop in Olney and speak to an experienced rug dealer and enthusiast or view our wide selection of Persian rugs on our website.
Q: What distinguishes an Oriental rug from a Persian rug?
A: Oriental rugs are created in countries like Afghanistan, China, India, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and more throughout Asia, whilst Persian rugs are only produced in Persia, or contemporary Iran.
The place of manufacture is the only distinction between Persian and oriental rugs. Handcrafted with natural materials, authentic Persian rugs adhere to tradition. Folding the rug back on itself reveals whether it is a true hand-woven Persian rug. You should be able to see the distinct rows of knots at the pile's base.
The knot count of fine Persian rugs can range from 85 to over 500, increasing in price as the number of knots does.
Q: How To Determine If A Persian Rug Is Real?
A: True Persian rugs are those that are produced in Iran's middle eastern area. You'll notice that every one of these rugs is hand-made. These regions do not produce machine-made rugs. Genuine hand-knotted rugs are made by professional weavers who tie each and every knot by hand. Flaws in the rug are to be expected and in no way affect the rug's value as they are hand made on simple wooden looms.
Q: Do Persian rugs have a signature?
A: You can tell you are looking at a truly unique Persian rug when it has a signature on it. Not every Persian rug has a signature.
This unique feature is present on a very small number of pieces that have been painstakingly made by professional craftsmen. These rugs are unquestionably extraordinary, whether it be due to their impeccable craftsmanship, the high calibre of the materials they were made from, or the exceptional design and colour combinations.
