General Rug Questions
Q: Why does my rug change colour half way through?
A: This is quite common with hand woven rugs. Look closely and you'll most likely find it is just the black that has faded to a grey colour. As the weaver reaches the end of the rug there is often wool left over. It can't be used in the next rug because the shade will not match the next dye lot. To save wasting the yarn they put the wool into a pot and re-dye it black. To fix the black dye they need to wash it in a mordant. If they don't do this properly the black will fade quite quickly. You can see the effect of this if you have bands of different colour running across your rug. If this problem bothers you, we can re-dye the faded part of the rug.
Q: Do you accept insurance mandates?
A: Yes we do accept insurance mandates.
Q: Are all your rugs expensive?
A: Well we certainly have some very high value rugs in stock. Most of our customers look for practical rugs that will wear well and offer good value. We sell lots so the prices can't be that bad. If you are on a tight budget then check our offers page.
Q: I just had my wood floor fitted and I want a nice rug. I don't want to cover up all of the new floor. What's the best size for my room?
A: In a sitting room try to make sure that every one's feet are on the rug when they sit down. Similarly, in a dining room make sure that the chairs stay on the rug as you pull them out to sit down.
Q: Why buy an oriental rug after paying out for a new wood floor?
A: The great thing about oriental rugs is that they are movable. Through the hot summer I rolled up my rugs and we just had the bare floor. That was nice and cool and made everywhere seem light and open. Often you will need a rug. It'll make the room seem warm and cosy especially in the evening. A room will be less noisy as the rug reduces the clatter. Rugs are nice for the children to play on. More comfortable to sit on and children will often incorporate the design into their play.
Q: The fringe of my rug is in poor condition. Can it be fixed?
A: Yes we can repair your rug fringe. We can either re-weave the fringe to match the old one or we can sew on a premade fringe.
